Seatdriver Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Hi all, merry Christmas. My prezzie on Christmas day from my 55 alhambra was no movement from the drivers door window when the switch is operated. The only sound is two very quiet humms like a door lock mechanism. Nothing else? All other controls work fine. Came across a post where someone mentioned the window becoming jammed in the raised position. With all this cold weather I wonder if this is also a possibility. Oh I also noticed that the central locking when it locked made additional locking humms that I have never heared before! But the car still locks, although my wife mentioned that the car did misbehave once when she came to lock it (it didn't lock properly the first attempt) Penny for anyones thoughts. Quote
seatkid Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Check for broken/damaged wiring in the rubber gaitor to the door. See FAQ 31, FAQ 43 and FAQ 44 for more information Quote
Seatdriver Posted December 30, 2010 Author Report Posted December 30, 2010 Right ho, Wiring seems intact and I noticed tonight that when I move drivers side switch to either raise or lower the window all the lights dim (ie there is a load on the electrics following the switch movement), so I am now suspicious the window is somehow jammed shut (maybe pulled itself out of true during the cold snap when it was frozen shut). I will now try to find the post where it was mentioned that the window can jam fully closed and the cut off regulator cuts in and therefore the window will not move. Penny for anyones thoughts Quote
Seatdriver Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 Hi again Car due into Seat main agent on Friday for repair. Quoted prices for D/S regulator Quote
mikej Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 QUOTE : Not really a bad price from a main agent and the parts prices seem reasonable Blimey i must be living on the bread line, if you have any mechanical ability at all you could fix this for under Quote
zorgman Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 what normally goes is the wire snaps wraps round a pulley and that keeps window up, cost me Quote
Seatdriver Posted January 5, 2011 Author Report Posted January 5, 2011 To be honest I have never had an issue with the main SEAT agents round where I live, now the time I owned a Ford Galaxy thats a different story! Most competent garages round my way charge approx Quote
mikej Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 I wasn't trying to have a pop at you in any way i am just a little suprised at times when people put the car into a Main dealer without possibly looking at other options or in most cases people are not aware of just how cheap you can do it yourself if they are willing to have a go, i mean surely thats the whole reason for forums. I have been unlucky enough to have changed loads of window units over the years inc the drivers one on the galaxy and i have managed to source a second hand unit from a breakers or Fleabay not because i have to but because i choose to. I fully understand you comments about time etc and the security of a job carried out by the dealer although i feel a cambelt is a little different and maybe worth the extra for peace of mind if nothing else. A few years back a friend of mine asked a local vaux dealer for a price to fix his electric drivers window, similar issue to yours, they quoted him something in the region of Quote
Seatdriver Posted January 7, 2011 Author Report Posted January 7, 2011 mikej, Hold on absolutely no offence taken and none meant. This is the best forum I have come across, the only problem is loads of people dont come back to report if and when their problems are sorted. Car is now back home and how is this for main dealer service, they changed the regulator for Quote
mikej Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Glad it's sorted, from the sound of it mind the service you recieved sounds nothing like i have ever experienced from a Ford dealer either. Quote
Mirez Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Its interesting how service varies so widely around the country - my local SEAT dealer (40 miles away!) is excellent, my Ford dealer is awesome and the local VW dealer is shocking! Very valid point on costs and its always worth checking SEAT prices- a good 90% of the components on a Galaxy are VAG so Ford will normally always be more expensive then VW but generally, dispite SEAT being part of the VAG group, SEAT are nearly always cheaper. zorgman Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 well my vw/audi dealer walk round bent over backwards there that good, ford well i get more sense out of my dog never being to the seat dealer but ill try them as got a nasty click coming off the nearside engine/gearbox mount which is dealer part only, motor factors i only ever go to NPA great lads they know me and deliver to my door if need be.its the case of if i could afford it i would get my car done ad dealers that price is excellent for winder ass and as ever buyer beware when buying off ebay always check your prices first. Aux heater plugs come to mind all made by beru but very varying prices Quote
